Webmaster Certification

Webmaster Certification is a new area of web authoring that is popping up in the community. The most evident reason for certification is to weed out inexperienced individuals who set up a little page and suddenly think they are an authority on webdesign. Other individuals or even small businesses, being new to the Internet and the World Wide Web, believe these 'authoring authorities' because they call themselves a Webmaster.

At this time anyone who has a webpage can call themselves a Webmaster. But what about people who really have taken the time to learn HTML, CSS, Design, and more? How are these experienced web authors (unlike the inexperienced ones) going to set themselves above the pack? That's when Certification comes in, but you must realize, it's not an instant solution.

The first question raised is who will be in charge of the certification? Some web authoring organizations have already started their own certification programs, for a fee of course. By enacting a fee you will continue to weed out more people, but could you be weeding out talented individuals who simply don't wish to pay the money?

That also brings up the question of how can you get a real grasp on whether an individual has an eye for design. How to you certify the ability to come up with a unique and effective 'look and feel'? These are all areas of Webmaster Certification that will need to be thought through and cleared up before the idea of getting certified as a webmaster is as common as taking the bar exam to become a lawyer.
